What Is In Your Cup?
Jul 13, 2023What is in your cup? If you are in a café, the answer will probably be some kind of coffee or tea. What about your own cup – you as the cup?
You are going to spill whatever is in your cup – only when it is full.
Is your cup empty? Completely dry? You cannot spill what you do not have.
It is interesting how we use dinnerware to describe our life. “My plate is full.” “My cup is empty.” It is best to keep your plate from filling up while pouring more into your cup.
Are you filling your cup with love, gratitude, content, calm and light-heartedness? Or are you filling your cup with anger, frustration, confusion, stress and fear? You get to decide what to fill your cup with. Is your cup going to be a mixture of the pleasant and unpleasant energies? Which one is more dominant?
What you fill your cup with determines how you feel, how well-equipped you are with everyday living and with unexpected events along the way.
Are you willing to spill what is inside your cup? In other words, are you happy with what you are spilling? Are you ready for the world to see what you are filled with? Are you willing to fill another person’s cup with your own cup?
You can spill your cup easily when it is full. Just a slight nudge or a gentle push will be enough to leave traces of liquid outside of your cup.
Is your cup half full? I prefer to see it half full rather than half empty. It is difficult to spill a cup that is only half-filled. There is only enough to sustain you mentally, physically and emotionally.
It is important to know when your cup needs a refill. That requires self-awareness. Otherwise, you will be just going through the motions, doing your routines without really thinking about what you are doing or why you are doing those things.
Self-awareness is to explore you in a deeper level. It is to understand who you truly are, to be clear on your beliefs and values. It is to notice and acknowledge how and why you are feeling a certain way in the moment.
When you know when to refill your cup, you get to decide what to fill your cup with. It is a decision. Other people cannot fill your cup for you, unless you give them the power to. You have more control than you realize. You have the power to decide what to think. You have the power to choose what energy to pour into your cup.
The goal is to keep your cup full as much as possible, and refill it as needed.
It is important to pause and refill your cup. Give it enough time to refill. This may mean a mental break from work, exercise, meditate or do something you enjoy doing.
My hope is that your cup will always be full, filled with qualities and energies which other people are willing to fill their cups with in a heartbeat.
Are you ready to stop feeling stressed and overwhelmed? Are you ready to have more time to do what you want?
